National Lottery players have been funding elite sport in the UK since 1997, with over £2.8 billion invested in supporting British Olympic and Paralympic sport. The support has paid off and today, ParalympicsGB is one of the most successful teams in the Paralympics, having bagged 147 medals in Rio alone.
In total, National Lottery funding has helped the nation to win 929 Olympic and Paralympic medals. The Tokyo Paralympics looks set to push that total past the 1,000 landmark.
Today’s announcement follows the success of last Sunday’s (15 August) Team GB Homecoming event in London, which combined the very best of music, entertainment and sport to mark the return of Team GB athletes from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Audiences were treated to unique performances and collaborations from a range of artists, including Anne-Marie, KSI, Laura Mvula, Mica Paris, Nile Rogers, Rag’n’Bone Man, YungBlud, Rambert, Chickenshed, and English National Ballet.
